I’m running because I know this district from every angle — as the only candidate who has been a DPS student, a DPS teacher, and a current DPS parent. I’ve lived the realities of our schools in every role, and that’s why I’m running to protect our public schools and ensure that our school board is not for sale. Too many candidates are backed by out-of-state billionaires with hidden agendas who want to privatize and profit from our schools. Our students and educators are not for sale, and it’s time to end the dysfunction on the board that continues to distract from what truly matters — our kids and classrooms.
As the most qualified candidate in this race, I’m committed to protecting and strengthening our schools by focusing on what matters most: funding, safety, and equity. With growing budget deficits and threats to public education, I’ll fight to make sure every dollar supports students and educators—never cuts from the classroom. I’ll prioritize mental health, smaller class sizes, and the science of reading to close gaps and help every child thrive.

We know the federal government is attempting to close the Department of Education—an alarming move that could have devastating effects on Denver students. On top of that, both Colorado and Denver are facing major budget deficits. We cannot afford to cut costs from classrooms. My top priority is to protect education funding and ensure that resources go where they’re needed most: to students and educators.
I will seek bipartisan support to prioritize both safety and mental health in our schools. We can’t talk about safety without talking about mental health. That means sustainable caseloads, fully staffed support teams, and access to providers in every school—not just some.
To close literacy and academic gaps, we need a holistic approach. That includes addressing class size, supporting the science of reading, and ensuring all students receive targeted small-group instruction and intervention. Every child deserves the time, attention, and instruction they need to thrive.

I was born and raised in Denver, where my grandfather, one of the first African-American airplane engineer instructors at Lowry Air Force Base, instilled in me a commitment to excellence, justice, and breaking barriers. I also grew up in a small church where I learned the values of service, community, and speaking up for what’s right.
I’m a proud graduate of Denver Public Schools. While I had amazing teachers, I didn’t have one who looked like me until college. As a neurodivergent student, I understood what it felt like to learn differently, which gave me deep empathy for students with unique learning needs. These experiences shaped my calling: to become the teacher I needed when I was younger.
I have devoted my entire teaching career to District 4, serving students and families in Montbello and Green Valley Ranch. I stood up for my colleagues and community as a 2019 teacher strike captain, fought to protect educator rights at innovation schools, and founded the Denver Classroom Teachers Association Black Educators Caucus to uplift the voices of educators of color.
My advocacy led me to the Colorado Education Association, where I helped launch a mental health hotline for educators, created a fellowship for educators of color, and successfully pushed for the creation of CEA’s first Human and Civil Rights Department, which I now lead. I oversee statewide efforts in racial justice, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and mental health access.
At home, I’m a proud mom in a blended family of six. We hold board meetings at the dinner table, start clubs, share big ideas, and support each other with love and intention.
